Distance
Distance is a numerical or occasionally qualitative measurement of how far apart objects or points are. Numerical description of how far apart objects are. Size of the gap between two places and the amount of space between two points [BabelNet].
In the military, distance is the space between adjacent ships or boats measured in any direction between foremasts. The space between adjacent men, animals, vehicles, or units in a formation is measured from the front to the rear. The space between known reference points or a ground observer and a target is measured in meters (artillery), in yards (naval gunfire), or units specified by the observer [Department of Defense Dictionary of Military and Associated Terms, p. 135].
The time-lapse between photographic exposures. At battery right or left, an interval ordered in seconds is between one gun firing and the subsequent gun firing. Five seconds is the standard interval.
