Armoured personnel carrier
An armoured personnel carrier (APC) is a tracked armoured vehicle that is used for transporting infantry into battle and is a broad type of armoured military vehicle designed to transport personnel and equipment in combat zones [BabelNet]. An armoured vehicle is a military vehicle fitted with partial or complete armour plating to protect against bullets, shell fragments, and other projectiles. Armoured military vehicles can move on wheels or on continuous tracks. The tank is the principal fighting armoured vehicle [Mansoor, P., Armored vehicle].
APCs appeared in large numbers early in World War II, when the German army adopted them to carry the infantry contingents of their panzer and panzer grenadier divisions into battle. After World War II, APC improvements made them even more capable of accompanying tanks into battle.
It is intended to transport mechanized infantry units and to provide fire support in combat operations. It can be used as a basic vehicle for equipping quick-reaction forces and marine units. The APC can operate day and night, under various climatic conditions, on hard-surface roads, off-road, and in an NBC environment [Укрспецекспорт, p. 6].
