Сredit quality

A measure of a bond issuer's ability to repay interest and principal promptly. Rating agencies assign letter designations such as AAA, AA, etc. The lower the rating, the higher the probability of default [Financial Glossary].

Credit quality is a measurement of an individual's or company's creditworthiness or the ability to repay its debt. Credit quality is an indicator of credit risk. Credit quality is also one of the principal criteria used for judging the investment quality of a bond or a bond mutual fund.
The credit quality of a company that issues bonds is assessed through bond ratings. The credit quality of other firms (including insurance firms) and securities is assessed through credit ratings. Credit ratings assess the riskiness of these firms. For individuals, a FICO score is the most common measure of an individual's credit quality [Investopedia].
