Combat Alert Duty
Combat alert duty – specific form of duty involving specially assigned forces in a higher state of combat readiness than other forces for scheduled or unscheduled missions and combat operations. The purposes of combat alert duty are to detect the onset of an enemy attack in good time, to destroy vital targets immediately, or to end violations of national land, air or sea borders. Combat alert forces include gun or missile crews, ships' crews, aircrews, duty staffs in command posts, combat support forces and maintenance troops. They are committed on the order or signal of a senior commander or, in circumstances requiring an instant response, on the order of the commanding officer of the combat alert unit or ship[Українсько-французько-англійський міжвидовий словник з тактики та логістики.
