Forward edge of the battle area is the foremost limits of a series of areas in which ground combat units are deployed, excluding the areas in which the covering or screening forces are operating, designated to coordinate fire support, the positioning of forces, or the maneuver of units [Definition].
It also has a related term, frontline. In military terminology, it is the position(s) closest to the area of conflict of an armed force's personnel and equipment, usually referring to land forces. When a front (an intentional or unintentional boundary) between opposing sides forms, the front line is where each side's forces are engaged in conflict. Leaders have often fought at the front lines purposefully or due to a collapse in battle formation. While a calculated risk, fighting on the front has sometimes reduced communication and heightened morale [Wikipedia].
