Armoured Reconnaissance Vehicle (VEC)

Armoured Reconnaissance Vehicle (VEC) was developed by Pegaso to meet the Spanish Army requirements. It is also known as BMR-625 VEC, while its manufacturers designation is Pegaso 3562. It uses many components of the BMR-600 armored personnel carrier. Production commenced in late 70's. This armored reconnaissance vehicle was offered for export, however it received no orders. Spain is its only operator. The VEC has welded aluminum armor hull. It provides protection against small arms rounds and artillery shell splinters. NBC protection and fire extinguishing systems were optional. Vehicle is armed with the US M242 Bushmaster 25 mm cannon. The same cannon is fitted on the US Bradley M2/M3 armored vehicles. Secondary armament consists of coaxial 7.62 mm machine gun. The VEC armored reconnaissance vehicle has a crew of five, including commander, gunner, driver and two scouts. Vehicle is powered by the Pegaso 9157/8 turbocharged diesel engine, developing 310 horsepower. The VEC is fully amphibious. On water it is propelled by its wheels. Maximum amphibious speed on water is 3 km/h. Waterjets were optional and provided water speed of 9 km/h. All surviving VECs were upgraded to the enhanced VEC-M1 standard in late 90's. The VEC-M1 features new diesel engine and additional passive armor. Upgraded vehicles were fitted by a new Scania DS9 diesel, developing 310 horsepower.
