Fixing

Fixing is a fixation of a photographic image obtained on silver halide layers by removing from these layers after developing the silver halide.

The fixing process consists in dissolving and removing silver salts from the emulsion layer of the photographic film. Silver halides are water-insoluble salts, for dissolution they must be bound into complex compounds. For this, thiosulfates are widely used in practice.
