Statistics

1. Statistics is the practice or science of collecting and analysing numerical data in large quantities, especially for the purpose of inferring proportions in a whole from those in a representative sample.
2. Statistics is a branch of mathematics dealing with the collection, analysis, interpretation, and presentation of masses of numerical data.

In science, the term «statistics» was introduced by the German scientist Gottfried Ahenvall in 1746, suggesting that the title of the course «state management», taught at universities in Germany, the «statistics», marking the beginning of the development of statistics as a science and discipline. Despite this, the statistical treatment was carried out much earlier: the population census conducted in ancient China, compares the capabilities of States, was conducted registration of property of citizens in ancient Rome and other statistics to develop special research methodology and data processing: the massive statistical observations, the method of grouping, secondary values, indexes, balance method, graphics, and other methods of statistical analysis.
