Spectrometer
1. A spectrometer is a scientific instrument used to separate and measure spectral components of a physical phenomenon.
2. A spectrometer is an apparatus used for recording and measuring spectra, especially as a method of analysis.
Spectrometer – an optical instrument used in spectroscopic studies of the accumulation of the spectrum, its quantitative analysis and sub-sequent analysis using different analytical methods. Analyzed spectrum is obtained by recording fluorescence after exposure to the test substance by a radiation (x-ray or laser, spark effects, etc.). It is usually measured quantities are the intensity and the energy (wavelength, frequency) radiation, but can be registered, and other characteristics, such as the polarization state. The term «spectrometer» is applied to devices operating in a wide range of wavelengths, from infrared to gamma.
