Diode

A diode is an electronic device with two electrodes that conducts electric
current in only one direction. It is used in radio engineering, electronics, energy,
and other fields, mainly for rectification of alternating electric current,
detection, conversion, and multiplication of frequency, as well as for switching
electric circuits.[Радіонов, С.]
The name "diode" was proposed in 1919 by William Henry Eccles, forming it
from the Greek particle di-, which means two and Greek. ὅδος is the way.
According to the physical principles of the implementation of their functions,
diodes as electronic devices are electrovacuum, which are manufactured in the
form of electronic (electrovacuum) lamps (electrovacuum diodes) or
gas-discharge (gas-filled) devices (gas-discharge valves), and semiconductor.
Each of the types is divided into some subspecies, depending on their functions
in electrical circuits.[Бажан, М.]
