Linguistics

Language

Language is defined as a system of conventional spoken, manual, or written symbols with the use of which humans, as part of a social group and its culture, express themselves. Language deals with communication, the expression of identity, play, imaginative expression, and emotional release [1].
Language is a system of objects and symbols, involving regulations for the creation and modification of acceptable expressions [2].
The body of words and the systems for their use common to a people of the same community or nation, the same living area, or the same cultural tradition is called language [3].
Language is a system of signs or symbols, such as sounds or character successions, combined in different ways according to a set of rules, particularly to share thoughts, feelings, or instructions [4].
The everyday use of this term includes various mass-noun and count-noun senses (for example, ‘language in general’ in opposition to 'a language in particular’), which linguistics is careful to differentiate. At its most definite level, it refers to the definite act of speaking, writing or signing [Crystal, 265].
