Lexicography
The science and practice of assembling dictionaries is called lexicography.
In lexicography, a word is studied as an individual item concerning its meaning and its use by the reader of the dictionary to learn the language or for any other purpose like checking correct spelling, pronunciation, etc [Ilienko, 9-11].
‘Lexicography’ is commonly known as the theory and practice of making dictionaries, the compilation, and preparation of reference texts for publication [Hartman, 6].
Lexicography is closely related to lexicology. They both deal with the same issues – the form, meaning, usage, and origin of vocabulary items. The sphere of lexicography is the semantic, formal, and functional explanation of all individual words and phrases. Lexicographers have to set it out frequently according to a wholly external characteristic, namely alphabetically [Dzharasova, 93].
