Virtual Memory
Temporary storage used by a computer to run programs that need more memory than is physically installed on the computer.
A way of extending the effective size of a computer’s memory by using a disk file to simulate additional memory space. Typically, the operating system keeps track of which memory addresses actually reside in memory and which ones must be brought in from disk when they are referred to. Virtual storage is divided into units called pages, and the operation of bringing in a page from disk is called a page fault.
