Extranet

An Extranet is private connection of intranets and leased lines from public telecommunication system to share part of business’s information or operations with suppliers, vendors, partners, customers, or other businesses .

An Extranet is a web-based interface to a private network. The difference between an intranet and an extranet is that an extranet is directed to different people and has different uses. Among the uses are direct client access and multi-jurisdictional litigation management. There are many software products that protect information in transit from one computer to another . It is primarily used to collaborate with multiple enterprises or companies and commit to joint efforts. It can be used for common software engineering, exchanging valuable secret data, sharing product details, providing access to the company’s services to its partners, and others. [1, 31-35] On the other hand, extranets tend to be expensive financially if the hosting parties maintain them (although their service can be moved to a distinct enterprise) and timely to train their employees to use them properly. [2, 3-17] Classic examples of extranets are:
software-as-a-service (SAAS): provision to certain applications and computational resources on demand through the Internet to a number of registered users.
backend-as-a-service (BAAS): use of specialised software that fulfils certain backend functions (database management, user registration, virtualisation, etc.) that is provided to end-clients and relieves them from the need to develop these applications themselves.
