Development of cognitive flexibility

Development of cognitive flexibility is the process of enhancing an individual's ability to shift efficiently between different concepts, perspectives, or types of thinking in response to changing circumstances and environmental demands. Cognitive flexibility enables people to adapt their thinking, solve complex problems, consider alternative viewpoints, and respond effectively to new situations (Dziak, 2024).
Development of cognitive flexibility may also be understood as the improvement of a person's ability to adapt cognitive processing strategies to new and unexpected environmental conditions. This process involves modifying existing approaches, restructuring knowledge to interpret new situations and task requirements, shifting attention when circumstances change, and selecting more effective behavioral strategies (Cañas, 2006).
