Accessibility

Accessibility – is defined as the condition allowing people with permanent or temporary physical, mental, intellectual, or sensory disabilities to benefit from an asset, resource, or service, when this possibility would normally be precluded or limited to them (Firenze University Press, n.d.). As a fundamental pillar of Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI) initiatives, embracing accessibility principles enables organisations to create inclusive environments that empower individuals from all walks of life. In the physical realm, implementing wheelchair ramps and lifts in buildings not only facilitates mobility for people with disabilities but also promotes a sense of belonging and equal opportunity. Similarly, in the digital realm, ensuring website accessibility through features such as screen reader compatibility, alternative text for images, and providing captioning or transcripts for videos significantly enhances usability for individuals with visual and hearing impairments, thus fostering a more inclusive overall experience (The Oxford Review, n.d.).
