Community support
This is a multi-tiered system of social, emotional, instrumental, and informational resources mobilized by local collectives to foster psychological well-being and aid individual and collective recovery from traumatic events (Hobfoll et al., 2007).
Community support operates through the mechanisms of social cohesion, informal safety nets, and community-based resilience (Norris et al., 2008). In modern frameworks of emergency response, community support serves as a foundational layer of mental health and psychosocial support (MHPSS), buffering against post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD), depression, and social alienation.
