Learning Adaptive Skills
Adaptive learning skills is an educational approach in which the learner’s level of knowledge, skills, and individual characteristics are taken into account when presenting and organizing learning content. It is based on algorithms and, in more advanced systems, artificial intelligence, and serves as an alternative to the traditional “one-size-fits-all” model, where all learners receive identical content regardless of their level. The idea of personalizing learning according to individual factors, such as prior knowledge, emerged as early as the 1970s; however, its practical implementation was limited at the time due to insufficient computer performance.
Adaptive learning systems function by continuously analyzing learner performance through data-driven methods. Based on this analysis, the system adjusts the content in real time, ensuring that learners move to more complex material when they demonstrate mastery or receive additional explanations and practice when difficulties are identified. This makes learning more efficient, targeted, and responsive to individual needs.
