Anxiety-related sleep disorders

Anxiety-related sleep disorders refer to sleep disturbances that are directly influenced or exacerbated by anxiety. Individuals experiencing heightened anxiety levels often encounter difficulties in initiating or maintaining sleep, leading to insomnia or other sleep-related issues.
Mechanisms Linking Anxiety and Sleep Disturbances:
Hyperarousal: Anxiety induces a state of heightened alertness, making it challenging to relax and fall asleep. This mental hyperarousal is a significant contributor to insomnia.
Pre-sleep Rumination: Individuals with anxiety often engage in excessive worry before bedtime, which can delay sleep onset and reduce sleep quality.
Sleep Anxiety: The fear of not being able to sleep can itself become a source of anxiety, creating a vicious cycle that perpetuates sleep disturbances.
