Maladaptation
— Maladaptation refers to a disruption in the adaptation process, wherein an individual’s behavior fails to meet societal expectations, hindering their ability to fulfill social roles, perform tasks effectively, or engage with others. It may stem from factors such as stress, environmental changes, or mental and physical health issues. Individuals experiencing maladaptation may exhibit emotional disorders, deviant behavior, or social isolation.
Maladaptation can be categorized as pathological, often resulting from mental health disorders, or non-pathological, arising from psychosocial stressors such as trauma or family conflict. It can affect various domains of life, including education, social relationships, and work. In the educational sphere, it may manifest as learning difficulties or behavioral problems. In social contexts, it can lead to strained relationships and social withdrawal, while in the workplace, it may contribute to decreased productivity and emotional burnout.
