Emotional burnout

Maslach and Jackson (1981) defined burnout as “a syndrome of emotional exhaustion and cynicism that occurs frequently among individuals who do ‘people work’ of some kind”.
The prevalence of burnout is enough to lead to significant social consequences – apathy and impaired professional performance.
The main focus of burnout prevention is the balance of effort and
resources. But it should be remembered that emotional burnout and stress are not the same thing. Emotional burnout is the result of accumulated stress over time. When you're emotionally burned out, you think things can't be changed and you feel stuck.
