Positive thinking

Positive thinking – related with positive emotions and other constructs such as optimism, hope, joy and wellbeing. McGrath (2004) defined positive thinking as a generic term referring to an overall attitude that is reflected in thinking, behavior, feeling and speaking. Positive thinking is a mental attitude that admits into the mind; thoughts, words and images that are conducive to growth, expansion and success.
Many researchers have examined the beneficial effects of positive thinking, positive feeling, positive emotions and positive behavioral qualities on psychological as well as physical well being (Fredrickson 2001; Seligman and Csikszentmihaly, 2000; Taylor et el., 1992).
Study showed that positive thinking training reduced the level of anxiety and depression in mothers of children with leukemia and increased quality of life; greater improvements in positive affect and optimism on patients with bipolar depression at follow‑up were observed.
