Social stress

Social stress is a term that refers to strain that is formed as a result of one’s relationships and their social environment. This may include stress from one’s friendship groups, academic competition, or struggles at home.This term is not recognized as a major type of stress, but it is nonetheless one of the most common types experienced by society. Potential social stressors include:
1) cyberbullying or online harassment;
2) discrimination and stigma;
3) life transitions leading to social role changes;
4) parenting challenges;
5) peer pressure;
6) relationship issues;
7) social expectations and roles;
8) social isolation;

Methods of social stress – A qualitative study using focus group discussions (FGDs) was conducted among adults. Purposive sampling was used to recruit 8--10 participants into homogenous groups. Data was collected until information saturation. A semistructured FGD guide was used to facilitate the discussions. Content analysis methods were used to analyze data.
