Loss of the meaning of life
Loss of the meaning of life describes a profound shift in which a person loses their sense of purpose, direction, and emotional engagement with their goals and projects. This typically happens when the goals that once gave life meaning no longer seem significant, and the individual stops identifying with or desiring to pursue them. The person may reflect on their past ambitions, only to realize that achieving those goals no longer brings joy or fulfillment. As a result, life can feel empty, monotonous, or aimless. This loss of meaning may not come from the realization that life is inherently absurd or futile, but rather from a disengagement or emotional disconnection from one's previous pursuits. Even if the goals were once valuable or noble, the lack of personal motivation or emotional drive can cause a deep sense of disillusionment and make life seem devoid of purpose.
