Cratering charge
A charge placed at a depth deep enough to create a crater.
Improvised explosive devices (IEDs) have become
ubiquitous on the modern battlefield and pose a serious
threat to the survival of mounted ground combat units.
These threats are typically not standard military munitions,
but consist of improvised or modified explosives,
packaged in convenient containers and placed in accordance with
local customs or procedures.
Tests conducted with varying amounts of explosives at short distances above and below ground level, as well as on the ground surface.
