Bank Ombudsman
Banking Ombudsman is a body created by the RBI to take care of the banking complaints of the general public in India. RBI appoints a senior official or Ombudsman who addresses and resolves all the complaints and grievances of the customers. (BankBazaar)
A Banking Ombudsman is responsible for matters relating to non-payment or delay in collection of cheques, bills, drafts, etc.
They are also responsible for matters concerning the non-acceptance of small denomination notes or coins without sufficient cause or justified reason. He is also responsible for registering complaints and ensuring action if someone is charging fees for such services. (Unacademy)
The banking ombudsman is vested with the powers such as: 1) call any additional information from the bank against which any complaint has been filed or any other bank concerned with the complaint; 2) call for certified copies of any document relating to the complaint; 3) maintaining confidentiality of any information or document that they may receive; 4) nature of the proceedings before Banking Ombudsman is “summary in nature”; 5) appellate Authority in the Scheme of Banking Ombudsman is Deputy Governor — in-charge of the Department of the RBI which is implementing the scheme.
