Linguistics method
The linguistic method is interpreted as a set of techniques used in the study of language [Ахманова, p.232]. A linguistic method is a complex logical unit with a specific structure [Серебренников, p.258]. Linguistic methods do not represent a single set of principles and methods of research and description of linguistic entities. Instead, it is a set of complementary and mutually exclusive methods used in different combinations and proportions in private linguistics and specific linguistic studies. Moreover, this set is not permanent; it is constantly enriched [Kurbanova, Ataeva, p.44]. There are three main classes of methods:
-experimental methods using controlled tests under laboratory conditions;
-corpus methods relying on the analysis of authentic linguistic data collected in computer corpora;
-methods relying mainly on linguists’ introspection, often aiming to judge the grammaticality of invented examples.
The choice of methods tends to be strongly influenced by theoretical and ideological background assumptions [Schmid, pp.41–42].
