Interview method
An interview is a journalist's conversation with a political, public, or any other figure intended for publication in the press, broadcast on radio, or television [Словник.ua]. It is a face-to-face verbal exchange in which one person, the interviewer, tries to elicit information, expressions of opinion, or beliefs from another person or persons [Maccoby, Maccoby, p.449]. An interview is the only genre where the presence of an only source of information is permissible and has no alternative [Академія суспільного мовлення]. This method makes it possible to perceive a person as a bearer of a unique worldview and a set of meanings, to expand the paradigm of understanding phenomena, to collect information about local practices and types of experience, and to find new ideas and approaches. The purpose of the interview is a deep disclosure of the researched issue, clarification of details, discovery of new things, and not only an assessment of already known facts [Байєр, p.77]. The importance of an interview is not to simply find out information that can be obtained from other sources of information but to communicate live with people, which allows you to learn about their points of view, assessments of certain events, and reasons for actions. The advantage of the interview is that thanks to direct contact with the respondent, you can change the questions based on the answers received, ask additional questions, clarify the answers, providing more in-depth information. In addition, direct contact with the respondent makes it possible to record not only the content of the answers but also the "subtext" - emotional coloring, peculiarities of intonation, gestures, external reactions [Титаренко, Титаренко, pp.5-7].
