Attack group

A subordinate task organization of the navy forces of an amphibious task force. It is composed of assault shipping and supporting naval units designated to transport, protect, land and initially support a landing group [Балабін, Гардера, p. 297].
The US carrier strike group (AUG) is an operational combination of ships of the US Navy, the combat core of which is an aircraft carrier. The formation has about 7,500 people.
Currently, there are 11 AUGs in the US Navy.
The main tasks of the US AUG:
- mastering and maintaining, with the help of the forces and means of the air group and the ships of the group, the given sea and coastal operational zone on the established TVD;
- protecting oceanic communications and demonstration of military power in small theatres of military operations;
- the destruction by naval (deck-based) aviation forces of enemy ships and vessels in the open sea and bases, enemy aircraft at airfields and in the air, the coastal infrastructure of enemy forces;
– direct aviation support of active units of the US Marine Corps and ground forces on the battlefield in the coastal strip to the full depth of the operational zone of the group's naval aviation [Військово - Морські Сили Збройних Сил України].
